One fun game

This post couldn’t have been timelier (more timely?) for me to read. And I’m so glad I stumbled upon it. I relate to a freakish degree with the author, as my little girl and old woman frequently hash things out in the silence of my emptiness. I needed these words today. And who knows, maybe you do, too.

Walking to Listen

Sometimes it feels like there’s a trembling child inside me, even though I see a bearded man staring back at me from the mirror these days. One fun game is to let the little boy speak, instead of pretending he’s not there. This is a good game to play, because I’ve noticed as soon as I start pretending, faking it, the reality surrounding me seems to know somehow, like a shark smells blood in the water. At this, it immediately sets about the task of making me honest again, which often involves getting humbled in some way. Humbled: comes from the Latin root humilis (on the ground), which comes from humus (the earth, the soil). In other words, if I’m not being real – expressing my truest self in each moment – the intelligence of life will, sooner or later, bring me back down into the truthful dirt, the dirt from which I came…

  1. I had to read it like three times, and everytime it made me felt like its me talking or should I say writing the story. So many thoughts, so many questions, but deep down knowing all the answers………..

I hope you had a good nights rest, and a wonderful day ahead

    1. I’m happy to hear you have a few days leave coming up. With long shifts like that, I’m sure you’re due for a break! As for my weekend…if I’m being 100% forthcoming, I would tell you I’ll probably spend most of it in bed. So I’ll be polite and say, “nothing much planned.” 🙂

  3. Got this on e-mail today…..
As we grow older, and hence wiser, we slowly realize that wearing a R600 or R60.00 watch, they both tell the same time…
    Whether we carry a R600 or R60.00 wallet/handbag, the amount of money inside is the same;

    Whether we drink a bottle of R600 or R60.00 wine, the effect is the same;

Whether the house we live in is 60 or 600 sq.m. the loneliness is the same.
Hopefully, one day you will realize, your true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world.
Whether you fly first or economy class, if the plane goes down, you go down with it…
Therefore..I hope you realize, when you have mates, buddies and old friends, brothers and sisters, who you chat with, laugh with, talk with, have sing songs with, talk about north-south-east-west or heaven & earth, …. That is true happiness!!

  4. A weekend in bed sounds so nice , as long as you can rest. If I sleep I dream and when waking up I am more tired than when going to bed.

  6. While typing here I am listning to the song by R.E.M ” Everybody hurts” and then looked up the words ………

I am feeling so everybody now………….

    “Everybody Hurts”

    When your day is long
And the night, the night is yours alone
When you’re sure you’ve had enough
Of this life, well hang on

    Don’t let yourself go
    ‘Cause everybody cries
    And everybody hurts sometimes

    Sometimes everything is wrong
Now it’s time to sing along
When your day is night alone (Hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go (Hold on)
If you think you’ve had too much
Of this life, well hang on

    Everybody hurts
    Take comfort in your friends
    Everybody hurts
Don’t throw your hand, oh no

    Don’t throw your hand
If you feel like you’re alone
No, no, no, you are not alone

If you’re on your own in this life
The days and nights are long
When you think you’ve had too much of this life to hang on

    Well, everybody hurts sometimes
    Everybody cries
    Everybody hurts sometimes
    And everybody hurts sometimes

    So hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
    Everybody hurts

    The sun will shine tomorrow……

Please stop me if I sound a negative…………..
