Salvaging Saturday: Anime & You

ShaoMayMiniPandaI don’t have heaps to say right now. My head still isn’t right. But it’s super important to me to say: THANK YOU. Thank you to everyone who messaged me. Everyone who read and related or just heard. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and didn’t message. Seriously, thanks. Y’all got me out of bed – or at least awake and functioning – today. Those little “plings” of support, alerting me to each new like or message. At first I resisted even reading them. And then I realize that means that I was resisting feeling better. So I called myself out and read your warm messages. And let you pull me out of my funk, far enough out that I’ve fed myself and played with the cats and am watching anime and letting myself smile and relax a bit. Thank you.

And thanks anime. I mean, seriously. Check out that spirited little mini-panda. Who could resist smiling at that?

I’m going to shower and scrounge up food. Maybe I’ll even get out and go to the grocery store. What?! Thanks, y’all.

So glad you’re feeling better Stephanie! 🙂 (((hugs))) xo…a woman after my own heart…anime …I’m not an expert in it like my brothers but I have watched every Sailor Moon episode known to man lol and it’s better in Japanese with english subtitles….the English versions of the series is just not the same!

    1. I’ve heard of Sailor Moon so much, but I’ve never seen so much as a single episode. I’ll have to add it to my list!

      Dubs are banned from my ears. They sound so ridiculous in English. I stick with the originals and use subtitles, too. 🙂

  3. lol! As an original Gen Xer, exposed to early anime every damned day, I do kind of weird out to see how big it’s gone. Must admit to something here that probably won’t go over well, but I’m a HUGE fan of the film Speed Racer. They got it SO right. SO right.

    All that early stuff was so clunky. I watched it. My friends watched it. All of us WATCHED it because there wasn’t any other choice. I don’t know that we all LIKED it.

    Having said all that, I’m a big fan of things like Akira and Fist of the North Star. And always, always give me subtitles. I LIKE the music of the Japanese language.

    1. It is so musical, isn’t it? The language is just beautiful. I confess to skipping out on anime a lot in my childhood and youth. Though, in fairness, I usually lacked access to cable channels. It’s different now, with Internet and downloads and things like crunchyroll. It strikes me as odd sometimes that I didn’t get heavy into anime until now I’m my thirties. I haven’t seen heaps yet, but I’m loving it.

      1. lol! Oh, Steph. Hope you don’t mind me saying, but I think you should have been born 20 years earlier. 😀 You fit the attitude and type SO well!

        Anime was it in the afternoons. It was anime, boring talk shows, or religious programming. Anime became a love/hate thing. When college days came, afternoon cartoons were integrated into drinking games (almost as fun as playing Bob – just a lot earlier in the day).

      2. Of course I don’t mind! It would certainly be a better reason for my lack of friends…I’m secretly twenty years senior to my peers! 😀 I shall take it as a compliment!

        Ew religious programming. That brings back memories. Bad ones. TV faith healers and prosperity preachers. I’m shuddering.

    1. Ohmygosh, YES! I’ve been waiting for seven forevers for someone to comment that they knew what anime I was talking about!! You win!

      I think we’re supposed to do some geeky anime fistbump now.

      By the way, thinking about doing a write-up about FMAB soon. I’d love to hear your about your experiences watching it, too!
